AVOID A PR NIGHTMARE
So, many sit at home unable to log on to their internet - right now as I type! Why? Comcast's DNS servers are down and there are simple fixes...but the easiest fix of all would be COMMUNICATION!
In this world where we are overwhelmed with communication - even when we don't want or need it - we WANT to know when something we PAY for is not working. Actually, we demand it.
So as I sit on my couch wanting to see how I did with my fantasy football league - I get more and more frustrated as to WHY my COMCAST internet is not working. I restart my router, modem, modem, router - restart my computer. All the while my ears are getting warmer and warmer fron the steam coming out of them!
HOWEVER, my trusty cell phone is working - so I check Twitter/FB and boom, I find out about the outage. I find out I can change my DNS settings - a two minute fix - and be on my way.
Now, let me go back to the key component - MY CELL PHONE! A Text Message Notification would have alerted the affected users, and let them know HOW to fix it. With a link to the fix (via smartphone browser) or a series of texts to fix it.
Instead many people are getting peeved because THEY HAVE PAID for a service. And they are not getting it. And they are not getting info on how to make their service work.
I'll throw you a bone... click here ----------> http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html
Moral of the story: COMMUNICATION is King! Communicate with mobiNotify.
